The Supreme Court used to be the backstop, generally making objective legal decisions. We can’t count on that anymore. They are eroding the confidence the American people have in their government. Now is the time for real reform to the Supreme Court.
Sen. Elyssa Slotkin (October 10, 2026)
Imagine you’re a conservative member of the Supreme Court, accused of rubber-stamping every Trump executive order, despite evidence to the contrary, and reading what supposedly moderate Elyssa Slotkin (D-MI) has planned for 2029. Hint: an “independent” judiciary will be no such thing if Democrats get their way in 2028.
Now imagine you are 22, fresh out of school, and offered an entry-level job in the White House or a cabinet department. For generations, that offer has been a prize: a line on a résumé that opens doors for an entire career, no matter which party holds power. Now a Democrat senator wants you to think twice – not because of anything you might do wrong – but because of whom you’d be working for.
On October 13, at a University of Chicago event recorded as a live podcast, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) explained how Democrats should use their power if they win the Senate on November 3. Her words were captured on video, and they deserve to be read in full:
“The people around Donald Trump have no immunity the way the president does; so you go after the people who do his bidding. I want to not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him. I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like that sounds fun. I might get an opportunity.’ I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.’ I want that deterrence message.”
Read that again. The target is not wrongdoing. The target is participation, and it was no off-the-cuff remark. Two weeks earlier, at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Slotkin held up Poland’s “Iron Broom” as her model for targeting former government officials to justify the punishment she seeks for “the people and institutions who stole billions of our taxpayer dollars and weaponized the government against its people.” Slotkin specifically named targets, such as Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, and crowed to her audience that misusing taxpayer money means up to “20 years in prison.”
Let’s call it what it is: a despicable threat from a partisan back-bencher (be truthful, what of her do you know that’s not anti-Trump related?), who’s put her personal anti-Trump views above those who voted her into office. By my count, this is the third time Slotkin waged personal war against the duly elected Republican president with attacks that do NOT reflect the will of the people in the state of Michigan or its 8th Congressional District.
Three strikes kinda-sorta proves it’s deeply personal for Slotkin: she just hates Trump. Take September 2019, nine months into office, when she joined six other “national security-focused Democrats” in a Washington Post op-ed calling for Trump’s impeachment for “pressuring” Zelensky for information on the Biden’s misconduct in Ukraine. Let me say the quiet part out loud: who died and made her queen?
Seriously, a first-year representative, who ran on protecting Obamacare, not impeaching the president who handily won her congressional district. A narrowly elected (50.6% of total votes) representative, who believes 172,880 votes in one of 425 congressional districts means she can sit in judgement of a president who won 63 million popular votes and 30 states (including her own). An impeachment that ultimately went nowhere, and a public record that suggests, at the very least, the Bidens were NOT above investigating.
The second strike came late last year, when she and five other Democrats with military and intelligence backgrounds released a video telling service members they must refuse illegal orders. It came amid National Guard deployments to American cities (that did reduce violent crime) and strikes on drug-smuggling boats (that have hurt the narco-cartels). Many people, including the President, read it as an invitation to second-guess the commander in chief. The Justice Department investigated and, in February, a grand jury declined to indict. Still, what was her true motive?
Well…that becomes obvious with Strike Three, this recent veiled threat to young Republicans seeking real-world political experience. Called out by Republicans for threatening conservatives who’ve done nothing wrong, Slotkin proclaims her own victimhood and dope-slaps her critics: “Spare me the pearl-clutching.”
Of course, when the inevitable backlash came, Slotkin spun a gentler version: “If you have violated the law in order to carry out guidance from the President, you should be held accountable.” Duh! Of course, lawbreakers should answer for their crimes, but that is not what Slotkin said in Chicago. She said she wanted young people to avoid the administration altogether.
As the editors at National Review pointed out, a graduate who hasn’t yet started the job can’t have broken any law. The only thing being deterred is service. Shame on Slotkin, whose own experience should have taught her to pivot to the middle like a true statesman, rather than enflame The Resistance that’s given us more illegal leaks from deep-state partisans, more programmed attacks on U.S law enforcement, and less bipartisanship on something as simple – and overwhelmingly popular – as showing a photo ID to vote.
If an investigation she considered baseless was an outrage, why promise a wave of them against people whose only offense is taking a job? When President Trump said this week that she should be “tried,” she called it the behavior of authoritarians. She should hold herself to the same standard.
If Slotkin bothered to look out her Senate window, she’d see the western world is exploding; Middle Eastern allies under attack, radicals terrorizing cities in France and Italy, Putin and Zelensky in a deadly stand-off, anti-Semitism on the rise, and many thousands of criminal illegal aliens lurking inside the USA. It’s time to circle the wagons to ensure America’s survival.
But not Slotkin and her cronies; Democrats are already preparing post-election probes of Homeland Security contracts and Trump’s corporate donors. To wit, letters requesting information have already gone to companies including Paramount Skydance and Alphabet (source: Reuters). We saw this right after 2020, so we know how damaging and divisive the next two years might be: anyone aligned with the Trump administration will be investigated at great cost to his or her savings and reputation.
Don’t scoff because lawfare and pressure on private institutions are not hypothetical. They are recent history. To wit, on October 14, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency released a review finding that nine of the country’s largest banks had cut off customers over their political, social, and religious views, using “reputation risk” as cover. Let’s say the quiet part out loud: “de-banking” is just black-listing and red-lining 3.0.
What makes Slotkin’s remarks so frightening is that she is supposedly a moderate: a former CIA officer and Pentagon official who speaks the calm, reasonable language of national security. If the center of the Democratic Party is talking about a deterrence campaign aimed at college graduates, we should take seriously what a Democrat Congress in 2027, or a Democrat president in 2029, will actually do.
Slotkin’s stop-at-nothing recipe is why these mid-term elections are impossible to predict. Only a fool believes legacy polling and news organizations are operating without input bias or outcome preferences. Photo IDs will not be checked in 26 states; states that also allow ballot-harvesting. Close elections will take weeks and weeks to call. Masked protestors with pre-scripted signs are at the ready. Anything short of a blue wave will trigger protests like we’ve never seen before…in hopes that Trump over-reacts (source: The Washington Times).
