You wanna know why Democrats bet the ranch on a government shutdown? Because they still believe rewarding immigrants is the path to a permanent majority (i.e. Obama’s “coalition of the ascendent”). Their logic is simply that 53.2 million non-citizens – including 18.8 million here illegally – favorably affects apportionment (more federal funds, House Districts and electoral votes). Unfortunately, rewarding non-citizens costs taxpayers $182 billion yearly (source: FAIR). This is why the Big Beautiful Bill denies illegal aliens federal funds, and deportations are in the news.

Republicans don’t need to deport every illegal alien, but they do need to remove them from congressional apportionment by restoring the citizenship/place of birth question, which was dropped in 2000. Democrats disagree by interpreting “the People of the Several states” in Article I Section 2 to mean everyone, but in so doing, they forget the time-bound realities of the founders, who had to (1) build a nation, (2) assume British loyalists would self-deport, and (3) resolve Indian tribes/ black slaves arguments.

Thus, in the 1790 census, proof of citizenship was anyone self-identifying as “American” still in the thirteen colonies after the war, and the right to representation was for persons living under U.S. jurisdiction (e.g. black slaves but not Indian tribes) who were loyal to the United States (e.g. Nevis-born Alexander Hamilton but not Connecticut-born Benedict Arnold). The fact of the matter is that non-citizens have never been allowed to (legally) vote in Federal elections, so the GOP’s best solution is to identify them in the census and exclude them from apportionment.

The Apportionment Scam

It is a very real “threat to our democracy” that Democrats are fighting for over 53,000,000 foreigners to count toward apportionment (435 House seats divvied up between 50 states and D.C.) because doing so dilutes every US citizen’s House representation and presidential vote. This begs the question WHY Democrats oppose a citizenship question on the census, as well as on voter registrations. The answer is twofold and all about power and money.

Politics – Democrats control 14 of the 20 states with big non-citizen populations, and counting non-citizens preserves 22 House seats as is (source: FAIR). This is why Rep. Yvette Clark (D-NY) said in 2021 that she “needed more [immigrants] in my district just for redistricting purposes” (33% of her district is foreign-born).

Money – non-citizens comprise 6.3% of blue states and only 3.7% of red states. To wit, New York’s 852,000 illegal aliens boost that blue state’s apportioned federal funds more than Idaho’s 38,000 illegal aliens boost that red state’s. This is why every Democrat presidential candidate in 2019 raised their hand when the debate moderator asked them to “Raise your hand if your government plan would provide coverage for undocumented immigrants” (source: NBC News). No question, they all knew the benefit of free stuff for non-citizens.

The “threat to our democracy” is real and easy to unpack. Start with the average congressional district having 761,169 residents. Then compare House members Grace Meng (D-NY) and Russ Fulcher (R-ID). Meng represents 206,000 non-citizens in New York’s 6th District, while Fulcher represents only 38,000 non-citizens in Idaho’s 1st District. Last November, Meng won only 120,000 votes, while Fulcher won 331,000 votes (source: USCB).

Do the math: Meng’s district has 211,00 fewer (legal) voters because it has 183,000 fewer US citizens than Fulcher’s district, resulting in her being elected by just 15.7% of the people she represents (20.9% of her district’s voting age adults). In contrast, Fulcher was elected by 43.5% of the people he represents (57.4% of his district’s voting age adults). So…the next time you hear Hakeem Jeffries or Chuck Schumer proclaim their virtue, know what they’re really all about is preserving blue seats in Congress.

The view here is that immigrants, many of whom hold traditional social values, are unintentionally boosting Democrat seats simply by living in blue cities – voting without casting a ballot – thereby sending far-left representatives to Congress. The great hypocrisy is that Democrats don’t actually represent non-citizens; they just want more of them in blue precincts and blue states. Without that, the Democrat Party will go the way of the Whigs in 1854.

The Benefits for Immigrants Scam

It’s hard to pinpoint when the Democrat Party made it their official position to attract immigrants into blue cities and states by rewarding non-citizens with federally-funded benefits, but it’s easy to see congressional Democrats trying to roll back the hands of time to the Biden era, when federally funded benefits were expanded to non-citizens. That’s because the Biden-Pelosi-Schumer policies are in the public record.

Between January 2021 and January 2025, the Biden administration (1) reinstated federally funded healthcare programs to 525,210 folks protected under DACA, (2) reinstated “temporary” federally funded food and shelter programs for undocumented immigrants, (3) expanded school breakfast and lunch programs to non-citizen kids, and (4) expanded Medicaid to cover immunizations, treatment for communicable diseases, and emergency-room care for illegal aliens.

The Big Beautiful Bill corrects the Medicaid loophole allowing illegal aliens to get free healthcare in America’s emergency rooms. Because only 34% of primary care physicians accept Medicaid, and hospital ERs are tradition-bound to treat the uninsured, non-citizens became an estimated 11.7% of America’s 155 million yearly emergency-room visits (source: HealthPocket). One can’t blame them for going to the ER, or that hospital ER costs get reimbursed by Medicaid, or that 14 states and D.C. offered state-funded health coverage to illegal aliens. Here’s how it works…

States receive (1) Section 1115 waivers from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide Medicaid to populations “not traditionally covered under state plans” and (2) federal Medicaid matching funds for “programs that address specific healthcare needs.” That precipitates a disproportionate share of funds going to “hospitals that serve uninsured patients to offset the costs of uncompensated care” (source: USDSH). This resulted in 20% of all US healthcare being funded by Medicaid (source: KFF).

Under the Biden administration, Medicaid expenditures expanded from $649.4 billion in covid-struck 2020 to $925 billion in fiscal 2024. That’s an increase of 40%, when the US population grew only 2.6% in the same four-year period. Shame on the reckless Democrats who allowed that to happen, who now scream petulant nonsense at the Republican solution. Because the Big Beautiful Bill reduces Medicaid spending by 15%, cutting $1 trillion over 10 years. The CBO projects 11.8 million fewer Medicaid beneficiaries, primarily non-citizens and able-bodied adults (maybe this loss of coverage is why 1.6 million undocumented immigrants have self-deported this year).

Citizens Only Apportionment

By the end of the 2032 presidential election (when President Vance gets re-elected), the hope here is that redistricting has run its course, illegal aliens are at historic lows, the Supreme Court has reinstated the citizenship/place of birth question on the census, and Congress has passed a citizens-only voting law.

Then, and only then, will America’s liberal party return to normalcy and give decent folks a real choice. Until that day, Democrats will continue to lose voters at alarming rates. Because we the people know a bad idea when we see one.
