Let’s face it; the 2024 election was a referendum on DEI abuse, and lots of voters cast Make America Realistic Again (MARA) ballots. So, it’s pathetic to see DEI supporters trying to skirt new laws, when their candidate (Harris) talked about defending “democracy” ad nauseam. Because the “demos” (people) exercised “kratos” (power of rule) to the tune of 77.3 million votes, telling the GOP to restore America’s cultural and societal guardrails.
A Great Awakening
America’s super-majorities are cisgendered (99.6%) and not black (85.6%) with little to gain from Biden’s transgender and DEI policies, which is why only black women and LGBTQ voters shifted further left in 2024. This is true, and the shift toward Trump spoke volumes; Asians (+ 6 points), black men (+ 2), Hispanics (+ 14), Jews (+2), Muslims (+ 15), Native Americans (+ 28), and women (+ 4) (source: AP/NORC).
For everyday folks, DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) felt like an attack upon truth, justice, and the American way. Black fathers knew Lia Thomas was a man masquerading as a female swimmer. Harvard’s Asian applicants knew Affirmative Action violated their civil rights. Mothers knew defunding the police made their communities less safe. The election’s meta-message was we want our elected leaders to be realistic…and acknowledge majority truths:
- 64% of voters aged 18-29 oppose transgenders in girls sports (source: NBC News)
- 62% of young Blacks say ending Affirmative Action was a “good thing” (source: Gallup)
- 66% of Hispanics oppose “defunding the police” (source: Ipsos polling)
- 67% of Asians oppose reparations for descendants of slaves (source: AP)
If Democrats want to reverse their record-low approval, they must help restore their country’s cultural guardrails.
Diversity Doesn’t Need a Program
There is no need to mandate diversity in America, which ranks #1 globally in sheer numbers of ethnic, racial and religious diversity. The USA is still the land of e Pluribus Unum; 97% of its population’s descended from immigrants. And the threat of white supremacy is absurd: of the 50 million immigrants added to the Great American Melting Pot since 1990, only 10% have come from Europe. The majority have come from Latin America (50%) and Asia (30%).
What the folks in the MAGA hats want is assimilation. Immigrants must leave their tribal hatred (antisemitism) at the border, adopt much of America’s cultural norms (mostly church-going, community-engaged, and family-oriented), and become good US citizens (hard-working, law-abiding, patriotic, and tax-paying). Unity – not diversity – is America’s strength and it’s showing up in this year’s record numbers – of every race, creed and color – enrolling in our nation’s law enforcement and military services.
Opportunity Is Quite Enough
Government-mandated equity is anathema in a country whose founders’ first decision was to replace a kingdom (born into privilege) with a meritocracy (worked into privilege). The over-arching goal has always been to provide equal opportunity in the pursuit of happiness – and why is that? Because competition makes everyone better, and gifted equity creates mediocrity. The former builds a nation of winners, and the latter builds a nation of whiners.
The DEI playbook was equal outcomes achieved by programmatic advantages (e.g. affirmative action) to help offset the structural disadvantages of racism and sexism. But, like every other social-justice program, DEI ignored years of shrinking “opportunity gaps” for non-whites in education, poverty and employment (see table below):
| White Share of College Enrollment | Black Deficit in Poverty Rate* | Hispanic Deficit in Employment Rate* | |
| 1979 | 85.0% | -19.4 points | – 2.4 points |
| 1999 | 65.7% | – 11.8 points | – 2.2 points |
| 2019 | 47.6% | – 8.3 points | – 0.5 points |
| * Compared to national average | |||
How was “white privilege” advanced by allowing non-whites to grow from 15% to 52.4% of college enrollments from 1979 to 2019? In fact, whites had the only sinking racial share of college enrollments. Black politicians talk of income inequality, but the numbers say black households have closed the poverty-rate gap since 1979 (source: USCB). How have Hispanics closed the employment-rate gap, if not through equal opportunity?
And if opportunity is not enough, how have median incomes for Asian-Americans become 32% higher than their white counterparts (source: OMB 2021 report)? Let’s just call equity policies what they were; reverse discrimination that raised up one group at the expense of another. It was never going to work.
Tolerance Is Achievable
How inclusion meant anything to people with the right to free association just shows how shallow DEI theory was. Americans are free to join the church, club, and political party of their choosing. In turn, organizations are free to exclude prospective members for a myriad of reasons. In fact, what I think of “inclusion” is my mother forcing me to let my kid brother join the pick-up football game (and then being scolded because he got hurt).
How about something real, like tolerance, because that’s what diversity demands. Muslims and Jews need to live and let live. Blacks and whites need to peacefully coexist. Pious Christians need to mind their own business. You get the idea, so consider this…
Eight years of anti-Trump perniciousness was the result of Democrat intolerance. They could have waited until the next election, but refused to “tolerate” the electoral majority. They claimed Trump “stole” the election and cancelled conservatives; arresting them, censoring their speech, and de-banking their businesses.
And how’d that work out for them? Well, they’re out of power, out of favor, and under investigation – – and DEI must wait for 2028 to be revived (if ever).
